Buster Posey Claims Brooks Wallace Award

The Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Award Selection Committee has named Florida State All-American catcher Buster Posey of Leesburg, Ga., as the fifth recipient of the award, which was presented in a national telecast (FCS) on Wednesday evening at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

Posey conquered an elite field of 15 other semifinalists and finalists including consensus All-American shortstop Gordon Beckham of Georgia and pitcher Brian Matusz of San Diego. He will be honored Thursday afternoon in the Fourth on Broadway parade festivities along with the College Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2008.

The FSU standout was also named ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic Baseball Player of the Year for his classroom talents which follows many of the life tenets of the late Brooks Wallace.

The Wallace Award is a dedication to the memory of the former Texas Tech player and assistant coach. Wallace was a slick-fielding shortstop at Tech from 1977-80. A four-year starter, he was named All-Southwest Conference and All-District VII his senior year. He led the Red Raiders to their first-ever appearance in the Southwest Conference Tournament in 1980. After playing two years in the Texas Rangers organization, he returned to Texas Tech and served as a graduate assistant and later as an assistant coach.

Facility
Dick Howser Stadium has taken its place as one of the top collegiate baseball facilities in the country after a two-year, $12 million dollar project was completed in 2004. Located on the campus of Florida State University, the stadium has provided over two million fans with the feeling of having "the best seat in the house" to watch the fi nest in college baseball action. On April 2, 2005 Florida State University dedicated the fi eld at Dick Howser to current head coach Mike Martin. Florida State's skipper for the last 28 years now coaches on the diamond bearing his name, Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium.

Florida State's players and coaches enjoy the convenience and luxury of a clubhouse and locker room currently located behind the Seminole dugout. The Griffin Family Clubhouse was moved to the first base side for the 2004 season as the construction process was completed. The main locker room was described by former Seminole and 2004 World Series Champion Doug Mientkiewicz as being 'better than 95% of the big league clubhouses' he has seen. The locker room contains a personalized wooden locker for each player, a separate locker room for the Seminole coaches and trainers, and a video area where FSU players and coaches can watch film.

The stadium also houses all of the baseball offi ces. The coaches' offi ces look over the stadium behind home plate. There is also a weight room and training area adjacent to the clubhouse. Each of the areas were

MMBC Camp FAQs

Q. What is your refund policy?

A. We do not offer refunds on canceled campers, just a future camp credit if you decide to cancel, but we do have what is called "Cancellation Protection".

We offer basic Cancellation Protection to allow participants some peace of mind in case plans change. This allows us to keep our prices low and provide the best service possible. Due at the time of registration, Cancellation Protection entitles you to a full refund of camp fees should you cancel your registration more than 14 days prior to the start of an overnight camp, and 7 days prior to the start of a day camp. If you cancel within 14 or 7 days of the start of your session, we will give you a camp credit for all money paid.

The credit is valid for three years from camp date at any of our camps, clinics or prospect events. Credit with insurance is transferable to family members or friends, and good toward a future camp.

Q. What should I bring to my baseball camp or showcase camp?

A. Many times the camp itself will have a recommended list of items to bring to camp, but here are a few things to help you. All position players should bring a bat and glove. Look like a baseball player by wearing a hat, jersey, belt, baseball socks, etc. You need to look the part. If you are a catcher, have your own gear. Hitters, bring your bat and helmet just in case. Don't expect to use the college's equipment and you must be ready to go! Borrow something from a teammate or coach if you do not have one.

What they're saying...

I just wanted to let you know my son had an incredible time. His first year in high school baseball was not a good one. I believe camp gave a renewed sense of self on the field and in his mind. He is now ready to continue playing and come back for the December clinic.

Nicole Blount

Chip,
I am the lost mother that you talked to per cell phone last night trying to find Osceola hall (in the dark). I just want to thank you for all your patience. We finally made it; you may have met Josh and Mandella by now. They (we) were very tired last night and I didn't come in the dorm (also Josh wasn't too crazy about that either!).
