Connor Mullee drafted by the New York Yankees

The New York Yankees selected Peacock Conor Mullee (Ashburn, VA) with their pick in the 24th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft. Mullee, who spent most of his Peacock career as a middle infielder was selected as a right handed pitcher by the Yankees.

"We saw a good athlete with very good arm strength," commented Damon Oppenheimer, Vice President of Scouting for the New York Yankees. "Since he is so new to pitching we feel he still has a nice ceiling to reach as a pitcher."

This was Mullee's first season as a relief pitcher for Saint Peter's. Mullee was the highest MAAC player selected and one of just two in the MAAC to be selected through the first 30 rounds. Mullee is the second Peacock to be drafted in the last three years. Santo Maertz was selected by the Cardinals in 2008.

"This is an extremely exciting day for me and my family," said Mullee. "To be drafted by one of my favorite teams is a dream come true and I can't wait to put on Yankee Pinstripes."

Mullee finished his career at Saint Peter's in the top five of seven offensive categories, but will be a pitching prospect for the Yankees. Mullee pitched in seven games for the Peacocks as a senior, striking out four in six innings of work, but showed the scouts of several Major League teams enough to be drafted.

Where Mullee will go is still not determined. He will head to either the Gulf Coast Yankees or the Staten Island Yankees.
