Former UNLV hurler Matt Hutchison taken by Phillies in MLB Draft

UNLV baseball student-athlete Matt Hutchison was selected in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday, marking the 26th consecutive year that at least one Rebel was drafted.

Hutchison was taken in the 25th round by the Philadelphia Phillies with the 771st overall pick of the draft.

Hutchison had a productive senior campaign for the Rebels, starting the year in the bullpen as the team's closer before moving to the starting rotation a few weeks into the season. He went 6-4 with a 4.46 ERA and four saves in 23 appearances, including 11 starts. Hutchison, a native of Palmdale, Calif., struck out 62 batters and walked 28 in 78.2 innings of work, and he tossed a complete game at Utah on April 11.

UNLV baseball players Drew Beuerlein and Jarred Frierson were selected Wednesday during the final day of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft, and they join former teammate Matt Hutchison, who was picked yesterday.

Beuerlein, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., was taken in the 32nd round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim with the 984th overall pick. Four rounds later Frierson, originally from Los Angeles, Calif., was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 36th round with the 1,094th overall pick.

Beuerlein earned second team All-Mountain West Conference honors in 2010, as he was one of the Rebels' most consistent hitters during his junior season. He started all 58 games for UNLV and hit .355 (81-228) with team highs of 10 home runs, 60 RBI and 29 walks. A versatile athlete, he started games at catcher, first base and as the designated hitter.

Frierson made the move to the outfield his senior season after spending the first three years of his career in the infield, and made the transition well, hitting .359 (84-234) with six home runs and 53 RBI. He laced six triples, which lead the team and was 38th overall in the country heading into this week's super regional tournaments.

Hutchison was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in the 25th round with the 771st overall pick.

The MLB draft began Monday night and concluded Wednesday, with lasted a total of 50 rounds. Overall the Mountain West Conference had 16 players selected in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft, held June 7-9 at MLB Network's Studio 42 in Secaucus, N.J.

What should I bring to my baseball camp or showcase camp?

Many times the camp itself will have a recommended list of items to bring to camp, but here are a few things to help you. All position players should bring a bat and glove. Look like a baseball player by wearing a hat, jersey, belt, baseball socks, etc. You need to look the part. If you are a catcher, have your own gear. Hitters, bring your bat and helmet just in case. Don't expect to use the college's equipment and you must be ready to go! Borrow something from a teammate or coach if you do not have one.

Bring a snack just in case, you never know how long you will have to wait to train, get seen, etc.

What is your refund policy?

We do not offer refunds on canceled campers, just a future camp credit if you decide to cancel, but we do have what is called "Cancellation Protection".

We offer basic Cancellation Protection to allow participants some peace of mind in case plans change. This allows us to keep our prices low and provide the best service possible. Due at the time of registration, Cancellation Protection entitles you to a full refund of camp fees should you cancel your registration more than 14 days prior to the start of an overnight camp, and 7 days prior to the start of a day camp. If you cancel within 14 or 7 days of the start of your session, we will give you a camp credit for all money paid.

The credit is valid for three years from camp date at any of our camps, clinics or prospect events. Credit with insurance is transferable to family members or friends, and good toward a future camp.
