Coach Myers thoughts on 2010

Given how early you have to select players, what's your underlying strategy in building a team?
Over the years, Brewster has created a strong network with scouts and coaches throughout the country so I of course have targeted the relationships already established. On top of that I have utilized my network base as well, cross checking players with scouts and coaches I know. Our roster has a familiar flavor of schools from last year because I enjoyed working with the players sent from those schools. Over the course of the summer I followed various leagues and players to build my familiarity and understand if they have the mental and physical skills to play in the Cape Cod League. The roster this summer will have several summer league All-stars, and Freshman All-Americans from the previous season. In the end for us to be successful, we will need the entire roster to be cohesive and continue to build and grow during the course of the summer.

Who are some players that fans may not be familiar with that we should follow during the upcoming collegiate season?
Players to watch from our roster are Miami's Harold Martinez who was a fan favorite from the past summer, Colby May from Georgia, Troy Channing Freshman All American from St Mary's College, Andy Burns from Kentucky, Matt Crouse from Ole Miss and Jake Barrett from ASU

What were your impressions of your first season in the Cape League?
My first summer in the Cape Cod league was a great experience for many reasons. Working with the type of players the Cape Cod league attracts, makes every day you come to the field very exciting. I learned a lot about the nuances of the league and that should be helpful with my preparations for the upcoming season. My biggest goal with the upcoming season is to continue to teach and educate the players of Brewster how important it is to act like a professional everyday on and off the field. There are so many people paying attention to the baseball of the Cape Cod league, it is important the coaches and the players show a tireless resolve throughout the summer. If each of us can say at the end of the summer, we have improved our routine and put forth our best effort day in and day out, we will all become better players and people from our experience!

What role does the community play in the team's success?
For me, the community is what makes the Cape Cod league so special! The people/fans are responsible for making the experience so special. As coaches and players we are so fortunate to have people opening up their homes and lives to us for the summer season. The tireless hours spent by all members of the Brewster Whitecaps makes my job and our players experience unforgettable! People have asked me about my experience in the Cape, and my response has been, "The people of Brewster care about what you do and how you do it, and everyday they want to help you be great!"
