Former Gamecock Justin Smoak Earns MVP Honors As Team USA Wins 2009 World Cup
Former South Carolina first baseman Justin Smoak (2006-07-08) earned Most Valuable Player honors at the 2009 International Baseball Federation (IBAF) World Cup as Team USA defended its title and earned a gold medal with a 10-6 victory over Cuba on Sunday afternoon in Nettuno, Italy. The Red, White & Blue finished 14-1 in the World Cup with Smoak setting a Team USA record with nine home runs.
This was Smoak's second stint with USA Baseball after competing for the 2007 Collegiate National Team. Team USA won it second straight World Cup over Cuba. The U.S. defeated Cuba 6-3 in the 2007 final in Tawian. Two former Gamecocks played for the U.S. in 2007, right-handed pitcher Lee Gronkiewicz (1999-2000-01) and first baseman Steve Pearce (2004-05). Pearce is currently in the Major Leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
A MLB first round selection last year, Smoak has risen quickly in the Texas Rangers organization. Smoak finished in Triple-A with the Oklahoma City Redhawks and is rated as the No. 4 best prospect in the Minor Leagues by Baseball America.

Welcome to Gamecock Baseball Camps at The University of South Carolina. We are committed to providing a camp that is both instructional and informational along with creating a great atmosphere to learn! The coaching staff at the University of South Carolina is dedicated to the development and growth of baseball players of all ages and skill levels.
We have Youth Camps for 7 to 12 year olds and High School camps for 13 year olds to high school seniors. All of our camps are taught by our coaching staff along with area high school and college coaches. We are committed to providing a positive and instrumental learning experience for all camps.

Q. What meals are provided?
A. A lite lunch will be provided for all day camps only.
Q. What is the camp refund policy?
A. There is a non-refundable deposit of $80.00 for each camp. If a notice of 1 week prior to camp is given, the balance will be refunded. After the day of camp, no refund will be given.
