Mike Murray Signs Free Agent Deal with San Francisco Giants

Wake Forest senior catcher Mike Murray was signed to a free agent contact by the San Francisco Giants, it was recently announced.

Murray becomes the first Wake Forest player to sign a free agent contract with a Major League Baseball team following the 2010 season and joins three other current or future Deacs that were drafted in the 2010 MLB Draft. Junior outfielder Steven Brooks was selected in the 17th round by the Chicago Cubs, while incoming freshmen Kevin Jordan was taken in the 19th round by the New York Yankees and James Harris was drafted in the 50th round by the Minnesota Twins.

Murray, who hails from Westfield, N.J., finished the 2010 season third on the team with a .345 batting average in 54 games played, including 52 starts. The senior catcher also hit six homers and drove in a team-best 53 runs. Murray led the Demon Deacons with 23 multi-hit games and 18 multi-RBI games in 2010. Defensively, he committed just three errors behind the plate for a .988 fielding percentage.

Over his four-year career at Wake Forest, Murray played in 194 games, including 164 starts, and posted a .299 batting average with 20 homers and 142 RBIs. Murray also had 35 doubles over his collegiate career and finished with 198 hits.
